2024 is the third consecutive year that Muong Lai commune successfully organizes the Xo May Festival. This is one of the major festivals of Luc Yen district at the beginning of the new spring with Tay cultural activities taking place in a jubilant and vibrant atmosphere, bringing many traditional beauties and unique identities of local people.

Xo May in Tay language is to “lucky”. Opening the festival is a worshiping ceremony at Na Ngam communal house. The ritual is performed with the desire to pray for rain, winds, harvests, and a prosperous and happy home.
After the worshiping ceremony, the festival will start with many speacial activities such as: folk dance exchange between Tay ethnic groups and clubs; Dam Thuong – a traditional dance with the participan of more than 300 actors in the communes. From a simple dance, Dam Thuong has become a commune traditionl activity of Tay ethnic groups.
For local people, the Xo May Festival at the beginning of the year has become the most eagerly awaited community event of the year, so people are very actively participating in preparations, contributing to festival.
A new feature of the 2024 Xo May Festival is the theatricalization of the Tay people's wedding ceremony. The Tay people's marriage ceremony has many important rituals. In particular, "Bride Welcoming Ceremony" is a special ceremony, imbued with indigenous cultural traditions that have been passed down in the life of the Tay people for many generations.
