In 2023, the People’s Committee of Yen Bai Province issued Decision No. 1648/QĐ-UBND on the Preservation and Promotion of Tangible Cultural Heritage in Connection with Tourism Development within the province.
This project clearly demonstrates the province's strong commitment to enhancing the value of its cultural heritage by preserving significant historical sites while simultaneously linking conservation efforts with sustainable tourism development.
The project identifies goals for the period 2022 - 2030, continuing to rank 62 provincial-level relics. Repair and embellish 168 relics at all levels, which are degraded national, special national, and provincial relics that need priority for repair.
By 2025, Yen Bai strives to welcome over 2,000,000 visitors, including 400,000 international arrivals, with an average growth rate of 21.4% per year. Tourism revenue is projected to reach approximately VND 2,000 billion by 2025, growing at an average rate of 33.3% per year, generating employment for around 14,000 people.
The project also promotes the connection of tangible cultural heritage with promotional activities to serve tourism development through activities: building tours, tourist routes, and combining visits to historical-cultural relics, museums, and cultural works. This is an important transformation, contributing to helping heritage "come alive" in contemporary life, especially national relics and special national relics such as the Mu Cang Chai terraced rice fields (a special national relic), the Thac Ba Lake historical and scenic site, Dong Cuong Temple, the tombs of Nguyen Thai Hoc and the martyrs of the 1930 Yen Bai uprising, and the Cang and Don Nghia Lo relic.
It can be seen that the project goes beyond merely "preserving" heritage but also focuses on "promoting." These heritage sites are no longer "immovable" constructions in history but have become lively development resources. Preserving tangible cultural heritage along with developing tourism with local identity will create a unique attraction in Yen Bai province. Such an approach is the right and necessary direction in the context of tourism being promoted and developed in localities.
With a clear roadmap and specific orientation, Yen Bai province is gradually preserving and promoting the value of tangible cultural heritage to become a bright spot, contributing to building the image of Yen Bai that is both rich in identity, dynamic and integrated.
