In the morning of September 19, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee received and worked with the delegation of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam during the delegation's working trip to Yen Bai province to provide emergency support to people affected by storm No. 3.

At the working session, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee informed the working delegation about the severe damage caused by storm No. 3 in Yen Bai province.

Storm No. 3 affected 9/9 districts, towns and cities of the province. People in the disaster area were in a difficult situation due to loss of houses, properties and means of production; many areas of rice and crops were damaged, many livestock and poultry died and were swept away, many works and infrastructure were severely damaged. According to preliminary statistics, as of 6:00 a.m. on September 16, 2024, the storm had caused severe damage to Yen Bai province of about 4,700 billion VND.

Along with the solidarity of domestic organizations and individuals with the people of Yen Bai province, Yen Bai province has also received support from international organizations and friends to reduce the difficulties of people affected by storms and floods. Currently, Yen Bai province is also making efforts to implement temporary measures to overcome the damage. Up to now, 100% of medical facilities in the province have been put into operation, nearly 100% of educational facilities have opened to welcome students back after the floods... However, the damage caused by floods and landslides in Yen Bai province is huge, the consequences are extremely severe, requiring a lot of resources and time to overcome and bring people's lives back to normal.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hopes that Yen Bai province will continue to receive attention, sharing and support from organizations and individuals to provide emergency relief in terms of goods, cash and financial support to reduce the severe damage caused by floods and storms, and to stabilize the lives, production and living conditions of local people.

Comrade Vu Thi Hien Hanh highly appreciated UNDP's support to Yen Bai province when it urgently sponsored 700 gender- and disability-sensitive household kits for people affected by floods, these are essential items that are meaningful to people at this time. Comrade Vu Thi Hien Hanh also hoped that UNDP would continue to support Yen Bai province to repair and restore damaged essential socio-economic infrastructure works (electricity, roads, schools, medical facilities, irrigation, dykes, dams, etc.) to stabilize production and daily life of people.

Regarding the relief package of 700 boxes of essential household item sponsored by UNDP, Yen Bai province committed to promptly implementing the necessary procedures so that these goods can be given to people as quickly as possible.

The kits contain items thoroughly selected to alleviate the hardships faced by the most vulnerable population in Yen Bai, responding to the specific needs of affected communities who lost their belongings and providing them with immediate relief in the early stages of response. These kits include water buckets, rain boots for adults and children, blankets, medicine, sanitary pads, whistles, and other essential supplies.

During this working trip, Mr. Patrick Haverman - Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam and the working delegation will go to the field and hand over the package "Emergency relief of 700 boxes of essential supplies to 700 households affected by storm Yagi in Tran Yen district and some other localities in the province".
